Kilronan begins (again)

So Thursday, on my way out to Knitting at the Poulsbohemian, I saw my knitpicks order in the mailbox. I immediately ran back into the house to grab Celtic Collection so I could cast on Kilronan. (Sorry socks! I still love you really)

I knit up a gauge swatch on 3 mm needles and realized it was just a hair too big. I had no 2.75mm needles. It was 4:58 and the good LYS closes at 5. I called Amanda to see if she'd stay open a few minutes for me. Nooooo problem she assured me. (Have I mentioned Knitter's rock?) So I jogged down the street and bought her only pair of needles in that size.

Here's my progress since Thursday night, one repeat of the main pattern. I'm really loving how this pops in the nice sturdy wool. It's a dense fabric, but not too thick. With this underneath my motorcycle jacket this winter, I'll be toasty on those chilly rides to work.

Sockapalooza 4

I was happy to mail off my sockapalooza socks yesterday. I jumped the gun by a couple of days since my package is traveling over an ocean and through customs. I was paranoid of forgetting to mail them, since they've been off the needles for so long, so it's nice to have the nagging worry put to rest.

I've stopped work on Kilronan, waiting for the telemark. Did I mention that I ordered a whole sweater's worth, not just a swatchable amount? I thought not. I'm out of control. I just didn't want to wait if this yarn ends up working. I'm so impatient ;)

In the meantime, I'm on sock two of the embossed leaves already. This yarn is slightly thicker than average for fingering, so I was able to get away with a 64 stitch sock for once. That's making them fly off the needles. I should finish the second sock this week if I don't get too distracted.

I'm also back at work on the pirate sweater. I've reknit most of the pattern over the last 2 days, it looks much looser this time, yay.

And thirdly (yes, out of control) I cast on EZ's july pi shawl in the delicious Malabrigo lace weight. I'm following her sample with the diamonds and arcs. It's turning out really lovely. The pattern is simple enough to show off the subtle color changes in the yarn, which is a mostly solid forest green. I'm up to 288 stitches and starting the second pattern repeat. As always, it took me 4 tries to get the first couple of rounds knit. I'm really a klutz when it comes to starting a closed circle on dpns. ;) Here's an already out of date picture
